Designing for longevity, ageing-in-place, and evolving lifestyles requires a holistic approach that prioritises dignity, independence, and autonomy across different stages of life. This includes ageing-in-place strategies such as home modifications and universal design, as well as exploring assisted and supported living models that provide care without compromising personal freedom. Intergenerational living, where grandparents and families share adaptable and inclusive spaces, can strengthen family connections while supporting changing needs over time. At a community level, senior living can move beyond institutional care towards community-based models that encourage social interaction, participation, and a sense of belonging. In collaboration with the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC), these principles can be further translated into innovative furniture, interior, and living solutions that respond to the changing needs of an ageing population while promoting flexibility, accessibility, comfort, dignity, and independence.

Dr. Koh Shuwen

Shuwen started her career at the Economic Development Board before moving on to two start-ups, ImaginAb Inc. and Endofotonics. At NUHS and NUS, she was the Deputy Group Chief Technology Officer and Director of Innovation. Shuwen is passionate about growing Singapore’s innovation and start-up ecosystem. She is currently a biomedical consultant and an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at SingHealth.
Shuwen started to volunteer in the Palliative care and end-of-life settings in 2012 and is a certified Advance Care Plan Facilitator. She cofounded the Assisted Living Facilities Association in 2018 and is accredited by the Singapore Mediation Centre, in service of ALFA.
Joshua Koh

Mr. Joshua Koh brings a forward-looking approach to the furniture industry. Since joining the SFIC Executive Committee in 2012, he has championed business innovation, design excellence, and sustainability.
As CEO of Commune Lifestyle, Joshua expanded the brand across Asia to nearly 50 stores, positioning it as a leader in eco-conscious design and digital retail innovation. He previously served as CFO and Deputy MD of Koda Ltd’s Vietnam operations, modernizing the third-generation family business after starting his career as a Bloomberg financial analyst.
Joshua holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from INSEAD.

Jason Ng is an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Engineer at Daikin Airconditioning (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. with over five years of experience in HVAC and indoor air quality. He specializes in indoor environmental quality, ventilation, air filtration, and sustainable HVAC solutions. Jason works with consultants, contractors, and building owners to develop air treatment solutions for commercial, industrial, and mission-critical environments. His expertise covers system design, equipment selection, installation, energy efficiency, and lifecycle performance. He is committed to improving IAQ while supporting sustainability, occupant well-being, and building performance.

STUCK Design Pte Ltd
Yong Jieyu is Founding Director of STUCK Design, a Singapore-based design and innovation consultancy. His human-centred practice spans research, products, environments and experiences, with recent work exploring ageing, senior living and future-ready care environments that support greater independence, dignity and social connection.
Jieyu also lectures at the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. He serves on the Executive Committee of Design Business Chamber Singapore and is Co-Chair of the SG Mark. As moderator, he brings a practitioner-led perspective connecting design, care, business and the built environment around the lived experiences of seniors.
