SIDFest 2022 Community Batik Experience

Be a part of an entry in the Singapore book of Records and create memories that would last a lifetime with your family and friends. Contribute towards Singapore’s Largest Indigo Batik Patchwork with SIDFest 2022.

Indigo dye is the oldest dye known to mankind and is commonly used in denim jeans today. The dye we have selected is eco-friendly, and raises awareness about the harmful side effects of the dyeing process.

Your unique batik design will be made from eco-friendly dyes applied on recycled cloth sourced from old linen and bedsheets from our hotel partner (Conrad Centennial Singapore) so that you know you will be doing your part towards a more sustainable future.

Create your batik patchwork in 4 simple steps

  1. Pencil your designs on a recycled white linen
  2. Apply your design with a traditional tool, tjanting.
  3. The cloth will then be immersed into a vat filled with indigo dye.
  4. After drying the cloth, your patch will then be stitched together with other patches into a larger patchwork as part of Singapore Book of Records entry.

Let’s do it together.

Date: 19 Nov – 25 Nov 2022
Time: 11am – 8pm
Venue: GR.iD mall, Level 1 #01-02

Indigo Batik Patchwork (Blue Christmas)

A Blue Christmas theme recognizes the loss and loneliness of the recent Covid-19 pandemic. This art activity event enables individuals to express their blessings for the renewed opportunity to reconnect with their loved ones on this joyous occasion. Expressions in the form of greetings are crafted with traditional batik indigo on recycled linen from hotels. This up-cycling initiative raises awareness to our environment and will be stitched together into the largest indigo batik patchwork. The guided activity of making authentic batik using wax and indigo dye activity also brings us closer to our South East Asian cultural heritage.
